About us
This brief history begins when our business was established in 1957 by Robert and Myrtle Adair at 12 Mill Street Ballymena. The success of the business's early years was in no small way due to the skill of Robert Adair as a watchmaker. Customers came from far and wide to ask Robert's advice on which watch to purchase.
Robert's skill at the bench and Myrtle's business acumen has allowed a business to develop with a strong focus on providing customer satisfaction. Some twenty five years ago the business moved across the road to larger premises at 47-51 Mill Street, formerly the premises of Mr William Macbeth, a long established local jeweller.
Stuart Adair joined the business in 1989, after graduating with Honours from the Irish Swiss Institute of Horology in Dublin, where he also won a scholarship to train with the Swiss Watch Industry in Switzerland. Prior to joining the business, Stuart undertook an apprenticeship with Boodle and Dunthorne in Chester - one of the UK's top family Jewellers - and he has used this training and experience to develop the business over the past fifteen years.
The business was expanded again in 2000 with the purchase of the shop next door and the complete refurbishment of both premises. This enlargement has resulted in a bright modern shop which is a delight to shop in. Judith Adair has now joined the business, making it very much a family affair.
The unique relationships in a family-run business create a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere at Adairs and all our staff place a particular emphasis on enthusiastic, knowledgeable and efficient service. Our customers notice and appreciate our commitment and we are pleased that such a high proportion of them return again and again.
